Social Science Department

Workman High School we feel that the study of the Social Sciences helps each student to better understand issues of today by focusing on the issues of yesterday. The exploration of history, geography, politics, economics, culture, and human thought creates an appreciation of our world and sensitivity to its many peoples. The progression of courses in the Social Science Department seeks to develop the fundamental social studies skills of critical reading, writing, and thinking. All courses emphasize study skills such as efficient note taking, close reading, and proper study strategies as well putting emphasis on research, composition, and oral presentation skills.

A - G Requirements

History/Social Science (“a”) Two years, including one year of world history, cultures and historical geography and one year of U.S. history, or one-half year of U.S. history and one-half year of American government or civics.
